NFL 2013-14: Can 49ers Overcome Packers’ Frozen Tundra?

I thought we might avoid family football rivalry during the playoffs this season. My San Francisco 49ers have been doing better than my spouse’s Green Bay Packers. But even with their 8-7-1 record, Green Bay is the division champ. On the other hand, SF is in the strong NFC-West and only managed to grab a wild card spot, even with a 12-4 record.

Based on their records alone, Sunday’s game should be played at Candlestick. Technically the 49ers have the edge, having beaten GB in September.

(It was great to see the Sept 8 game at Candlestick)

But the Packers have the weather advantage! Right now, the high temperature Sunday is forecast to be 5 above zero. The temperature will be heading down soon after kick-off. I’m afraid the Niners, especially QB Colin Kaepernick, in just his third year in the NFL, cannot possibly prepare adequately for the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau.

At least the family clash of loyalties will take place in a more pleasant environment. Brats, Italian sausage and garlic fries will provide the fuel to keep us warm as we cheer for our teams.
