NFL 2012-13 Post-Season: Smith Traded, Kaepernick Honored, Ault Interviewed

The San Francisco Forty-Niners have traded QB Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for future draft picks. Smith was starting QB at the beginning of the past season, but was injured in November. By the time Smith recovered from his concussion, the QB spot was firmly in the hands of Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick has been selected as the January winner of the Hickok Belt Award. A panel of members from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association chose each month’s honoree and an overall yearly winner. January was a great month for Kaepernick, with two playoff wins. He set an NFL running record in the win over the Green Bay Packers. Kaepernick beat out an impressive group of athletes for the award, including Joe Flacco who led the Baltimore Ravens in their win over Kaepernick and the Niners in the Super Bowl.

Kaepernick’s college coach, Chris Ault, was interviewed by several NFL teams at the NFL Combine. Ault retired from the University of Nevada, Reno in December, after 28 years. He invented the Pistol Offense in 2005. A number of teams are interested in hiring Ault as an offensive consultant.
