What a quandary tonight! Should I watch preseason football or tune in to the Olympics?
I was interested to see if Colin Kaepernick got any playing time in tonight’s San Francisco vs Minnesota game. Kaepernnick, a 2011 University of Nevada graduate, was drafted by the 49ers (my NFL favorite team) last year. His only playing time last season was in preseason games.
But tonight’s Olympic schedule included men’s platform diving and “Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius in the men’s 4×400 relay.
I ended up clicking back and forth on the remote. Kaepernick ran for a 78-yard touchdown; unfortunately I missed it. But he was named game MVP and the Niners won 17-6. In Olympic diving, the Chinese diver who remained in first place throughout the qualifying rounds, had an almost perfect dive in round 2. Pistorius’ South African team finished last in the relay. The cameras largely ignored him as the Bahamian anchor runner caught up with and passed the US runner just before the finish line. And the US women’s 4×100 relay team had a stunning final race, breaking a 27-year old world record.
There likely won’t be any more television conflicts in the last 2 days of Olympic competition. Next week I will be complaining that there isn’t anything interesting to watch!
