Obama Campaigns in Reno Neighborhood

Yesterday President Obama made a campaign appearance just down the highway in Reno. I have to admire the creativity of this event. No campaign rally at the university or the convention center. Mr. Obama’s motorcade brought him to a Reno neighborhood to give a brief speech. He stopped at the home of a couple who had used a mortgage refinance program that the Obama administration had initiated. The President visited with the couple about an hour and gave a 14 minute speech to area residents.

Nevada has had the highest foreclosure rate in the nation for quite some time. But the key to a successful campaign event was talking about the housing crisis in Reno, not Las Vegas. Reno residents have had difficulties, but nowhere the number of foreclosures as Vegas. Mr. Obama faced a civil and mostly friendly crowd on Ridgecrest Drive; in Vegas he likely would have had to deal with a hostile mob of suffering homeowners. Smart planning.

Note: This is my 100th post! Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read my musings on politics and football.
