Santorum Wins Big in Minnesota & Missouri, Paul 2nd in Minnesota

“Game on!” Rick Santorum’s comment after the Iowa caucus applies even more tonight. I turned on the television after dinner, and when the results from Missouri and Minnesota flashed on the screen, all I could say for a minute was “Wow!”

Not only did Santorum beat Mitt Romney by 30% in Missouri, but Ron Paul pushed Romney to third in Minnesota! With relatives and friends in Minnesota and next door in Wisconsin, I know a bit about politics in the region. I’m shocked that both Santorum and Paul beat Romney. Two thoughts come to mind:
1. Most of the moderates in Minnesota must be registered as Democrats.
2. Romney made only one campaign stop in Minnesota, just over a week ago.

In the weeks since Newt Gingrich won South Carolina, the campaign had become rather predictable and boring. Now, as this is being written, the lead in Colorado’ caucus keeps changing hands. Even if Romney wins there, tonight has shaken up the GOP race again.
